JUST DO IT!

Have you ever thought to yourself: I must call her today; I must send that card today;  I wonder if their hurt has eased by now?  And then, for one reason or another, the thought leaves you before you act on the impulse.

Admittedly, I have these thoughts on a daily basis.  Often, I am not always faithful to carry out my good intentions.  Then, suddenly, some event or cicumstance will jolt my memory - and boom!  Perhaps I found that the person who I so loved, and whose friendship I so cherished, was no longer around for me to call, to write, to hug, to cheer on, to say "I love you and I care about you."  I think a lot about lost opportunities and how they slip through our fingers like grains of sand at Myrtle Beach.

Today I received such an act of thoughtfulness:  I received a warm and wonderful e-mail from a dear friend, Tracie Pierce, who lives in McComb, MS.  I have not seen Tracie in about 20 years.  Hearing from her made it seem like only yesterday since we had shared good times together.  A flood of happy memories rushed in and it was like sitting across the kitchen table, sharing with Tracie.  Wow, so much has changed in both our lives, but the genuine friendship is solid as a rock.  To be brought up to date on her family, her children, how she and Ronnie are doing, the joys and sorrows that come and go in their lives - well, it made my day. Thank you, Tracie, for taking the time to write that e-mail and share from your heart!  You have inspired me to do a better job of staying in touch and acting on my thoughts, not just thinking about them.

Tracie also shared how her brother is valiantly serving our country in the Air Force, and that even though he can retire now at the ripe age of 40, he would not dare.  He served in Iraq last year, and now in Afghanistan...  As someone said, if that doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet!  To think he could have retired, but chose not to!  That's how much he cares!  All of our brave military personnel deserve our praise, our prayers, and our incredible appreciation for all they are to doing to keep us safe.

In a few days we will be entering the so-called "season of love" where the retail world will flood us in one way or another, with cards, flowers, candy, heart-studded pajamas, or whatever!  Right now, why don't we resolve to start the season early by saying I LOVE YOU in our own special ways and let it continue throughout the year! Just do it!

Thanks for letting me share from my heart to yours!
